This is a great article, I do think that Javascript being used in the backend and frontend has helped to this "easy path" to being a developer. Now unlike the 2000s, everyone has a computer (their phone) and everything is connected or needs an app. I think if you find the right field/project, programming can be a lot of fun... but those are hard to find. Writing software for an ECommerce site is not it, might be a tad better than working at an insurance company's software. Regardless of the work, programming is hours and hours of work, what you do you own, and so expect to have the work waiting for you when you take vacation (no one talks about how enslaving it can feel at times).... but as the article says, if you are doing this for money expect to be bad experience and fail.
