I have used Unity a lot, it has been great in many ways... but something broke around the2020/ 2021 release version and I stopped using it. Granted I have not had any project that needed it, but I would so use on a personal level for game jams. I did really liked Unity, less overheard than Unreal and I could deploy it easer on mobile. I have use it for games, simulations, and training applications... with a custom backend and deployed on desktop, mobile, and VR/AR systems. Early on 2022, I was getting back on game jams and moved to game maker studoi (which is really great for 2d, I wanted something simple), then early 2023 I switched to GoDot and it has been great so far for 2D and 3D games.
Back on the main topic, this year already feels like 2000/2001. However, do realize that everything runs on a computer, so yes you have a high chance of getting laid off. Software it is still running, and needs updating. Lots of software developers were laid off and then things picked up again.
