User engagement is money, and Meta knows it very well. If you thought the Gemini issues with misrepresenting history for inclusivity was an factual mishap from AI models, here we have inclusivity angle to exploit users by an emotional connection. Bots have been used for a long time in profiles to create users and generate engagement, this is not new. What is new is how they are able to emotionally connect and manipulate humans. Before you could tell based on the script the bot followed, but now big tech companies are focusing on developing them… the result will be seniors and teens being exploited by corporations.

There should be a policy or law against this behavior from corporations with hefty fines. We are doing the opposite, for the sake of AI we are enabling it. Right now only the fake profiles are being deleted, only the ones we know… but how about the ones we don’t know?

The references below show in detail the interactions between journalist and the AI profiles/agents. The responses are unsurprising, and nothing less of my expectations from Meta.
